To oversee and deliver CHRE’s scrutiny and quality assurance of the regulatory bodies’ performance of their functions, confirming that they are protecting patients and the public. To identify, disseminate and promote good practice in regulation and take appropriate action, within CHRE's powers where there is poor practice.

Key responsibilities:

• To manage the Council’s work in relation to its power to refer final fitness to practice cases to the High Court under S29 of the NHS Reform and Health Care Professions Act 2002. This includes referring appropriate cases to Court and raising standards through identifying and disseminating learning.
• To manage the annual audit of the regulators’ decisions in the early stages of their Fitness To Practise processes (FTP). To report on the findings and disseminate good practice.
• To manage investigations, when required, into how the regulators are fulfilling their duties to protect patients and the public.
