This post will play a pivotal role in delivering and embedding our strategy. It requires someone who can maintain clear strategic oversight but is prepared to roll their sleeves up when necessary.
Samaritans is a recognised, well-respected and trusted charity. It operates as a network of 201 branches governed by a central Board of Trustees and has a strong volunteer led ethos. The vision is that fewer people die by suicide and Samaritans provides confidential emotional support 24 hours a day, through its branch network and strategic partnership and community outreach work
We are in an exciting new era with a great opportunity to drive forward and innovate in the way we implement our strategy ‘Working Together to Reduce Suicide’. In this we are driving forward with exciting and transformational change initiatives which includes making best use of technology to deliver our work, supporting our volunteers, developing our staff, and driving new income generating opportunities. Key to helping us achieve our goals will be to maximise the effective use of our financial and human resources.
We are looking for an exceptional individual to join us as our Executive Director of Corporate Services, who has experience of working at Board level. The successful candidate will be financially competent and also bring experience of leading a portfolio of activities which will include: Finance, HR, Property, Legal and Governance and planning and performance.
Our ideal candidate will be a qualified accountant with significant experience of driving change and improvement at a senior level in a voluntary, commercial and/or public organisation, including proven experience of managing substantial budgets and finances and keen commercial acumen.
In addition to experience in the core areas of this role, the person will need to be a results-focused team player, who solves problems creatively, and have a motivational and facilitative leadership style. Given Samaritans structure and volunteer ethos, you will also possess strong emotional intelligence, be able to deliver through influence, negotiation and collaboration, and be flexible and adaptable. An alignment to our cause is important, as is a high degree of resilience.
